April 2019 Middle Market Monitor
Economic indicators released in April were positive. The economy continues to demonstrate modest but persistent growth. Labor markets remain supportive, with unemployment near 50-year lows. U.S. public equity markets extended their historic start to the year – the S&P 500 rose 3.9% in April to all-time highs – and M&A activity remains robust. However, markets are seeking resolution on US-China trade negotiations, as escalating rhetoric and a fresh round of higher tariffs triggered investor concerns in early May. Download the April report.
